Recently, Deputy Minister of External Relations Zhang Yan valiantly participated in the WPC Series 2024 Asia Pickleball Open in Phuket, Thailand, despite suffering from an injury. Alongside her partner from Taiyuan, Shanxi, she triumphed in numerous matches, clinching the second place in the 35+ mixed doubles competition, which attracted a pool of skilled contenders. The WPC Series -2024 Asian Pickleball Open, a six-day tournament spanning from February 13th to 18th, catered to all age groups and drew over 430 players from 26 countries and regions, including 18 athletes representing Zhuhai, Dalian, Shanghai, Taiyuan, and Guangzhou in China. This event currently stands as one of the preeminent international competitions in Asia.
Prior to her participation, Zhang Yan underwent acupuncture and moxibustion physiotherapy due to discomfort in her right arm. Despite her injury, she persevered and competed with unwavering determination and exceptional pickleball skills, ultimately achieving remarkable results. Her achievements are not only a personal accolade but also a testament to the pride of her team and a source of pride for the Chinese pickleball community in Asia.
